Rudolph Campaign and Other Stuff

This year at Christmas time I worked with my class to support a needy family by buying them food and gifts.  This was a single mother with a young girl and baby on the way.  I made a lot of the phone calls inquiring about places in which we could volunteer to raise money and this was a good way to do something I’ve never really done before as I’m usually a little hesitant to make phone calls.  However I was eager to take initiative for this and to make the phone calls anyway.  We ended up doing a bake sale.  I wasn’t able to attend because I was working, but I did bake chocolate chip muffins (which was also a challenge for me since I am not at all comfortable or knowledgeable about baking).  The muffins turned out great though and they all sold!  There was a fair amount of food that didn’t sell and this was brought to school the next day and I worked with two other students at lunch to sell the rest of the food, which we were able to do.  This was a great service project to be a part of, especially because I was able to work with a group of people, which was a change because group work is not something I do all that often.

I have been working on editing some of my photography as well, and playing around with different techniques and features, and I am learning a lot!  I have been also planning some more for my filming and brainstorming different shots that I can take, which I will hopefully be able to start shooting this weekend!

Meeting

Had a meeting with my supervisor for my video editing project today.  He was incredibly helpful and it was a productive meeting.  We talked over my goals for the project, a bit about editing software, and a lot about different techniques that I can use, and he gave me some tips for when I am able to start filming.  Can't wait to be able to start once the weather gets better!  As for now, I am trying to find some good music that matches what I would like my video to feel like.  I have looked some more into the video editing software, and am thinking about going with iMovie, which I will be able to test out with my supervisor, since he has this software.  I will probably test this out next time we meet.

Just an Update!

I just wanted to post a video from early fall that I never got around to uploading until now.  In this video I was working on getting Romeo comfortable with a rope around his leg and me holding his leg up in preparation for teaching the bow trick.  I quickly found out that he was very fearful of ropes holding him in a certain place, especially when the rope was on his legs, so I used the Parelli method of desensitizing him to the rope being around his leg, and as you can see this is only the second day I worked on it and I was already getting a bow at the end!  Not perfect by any means but definitely progress from when he would jump around until I let go of the rope because he was so scared of it before.

There has been so much snow that I have been unable to do any kind of filming with Romeo for my video editing projects for CAS, since we aren't even able to walk to the arena because the snow is so deep.  However this weekend there has been a lot of rain and mild temperatures which will follow through to this week so I'm hoping that by next week we should be able to film enough to at least get me started on a project.  I have also been spending a great deal of time on this part of CAS in terms of finding a suitable editing software that isn't very expensive, as well as researching the pros and cons of each one.  I have narrowed it down to a couple so I will hopefully be able to make my decision soon!
